Chakka Adai / Jackfruit Adai

Chakka Adai / Jack fruit Adai

This is one of my all time favourites. When i was a kid we use to visit my grandparents and grandma used to make these adai when jack fruit is in season. They had a lot of jack fruit trees in their backyard. Here it is very hard to get the fresh jack fruits .So i get the frozen ones which taste as good as the fresh ones.

Ingredients:

Raw rice - 2cups

Frozen/fresh jack fruit - 8.80z [ you can get this from Asian stores]

cardamom - 5

jaggery -8 cubes

salt - 1/4tsp
water - enough to make the batter

Method:

Soak the raw rice overnight. In a blender grind the jack fruits, cardamom and raw rice to a paste with some water.Make sure it is not too watery .

In a pan add the jaggerry cubes and 1/4cup of water and melt the jaggery and make a syrup. Strain the syrup. The reason why we are doing this is because jaggery may have a lot of stones in it.

Add the syrup to the batter and mix well. The batter should be like dosa batter consistency. If it is too thick add more water.
You do not need to let the batter ferment.

Adai is ready to be made.
