Chow Chow Koottu Curry- Kerala Style
This is one of the simplest way to cook chow chow kerala style. It tastes good and can be served as a side dish with Dosa,Rice..
Ingredients
Chow chow/Chayote Squash -1
Chana Dal-1/2 cup
For paste-
Fresh Grated Coconut-3/4 cup
Cumin seeds-1tsp
Green chillies-2-3
turmeric powder-1/2tsp
For seasoning
mustard seeds-1 tsp
red chillies-2
curry leaves - a few
coconut oil-2 tsp
Salt-to taste
Method
Soak the chana for 1/2 hour.
Peel the skin of Chow Chow and cut into cubes.
Cook the chow chow , chana dal and turmeric
powder together with enough water.
In a blender grind coconut,cumin and green
chillies in to a smooth paste with a little
water. Set aside.
When the chow chow and the dal is cooked add
the paste and salt,mix well. If there is extra
water strain it before adding the paste. This
curry is suppose to be medium consistency.ie,
not too thick, not too watery.
In a pan add the oil,mustard seeds,red chillies
and curry leaves when it splutters add it to
the koottu.Serve Hot.
