Koottu Curry


Koottu Curry

This is one of the authentic kerala dishes.It is one of the side dishes
that is served for any feast[sadhya].It is called Kuttu curry because it
is a mix of varous kinds of Ingredients.

Koottu Curry


Carrot-2 large ones
Yam-frozen cut in to small cubes-3/4 cup

chanadal -1/2cup

To paste:
coconut-1/2cup fresh
cumin seeds-1/2tsp

redchillie powder-1tsp or more [depending upon how much spicy u like your


Jaggerry-2cubes sliced

salt-to taste

Mustard seeds-1tsp
urad dal-1tp
Curry leaves-8-10

coconut oil-2tsp-3tsp


Cook the chana dal with enough water.When it is half cooked add the

carrot and yams. Cook until vegetables and dal are soft. Add

turmeric,chilli powder,jaggery and salt.

In a Blender make a paste of coconut and cumin seeds.If there is a lot of

extra water in your cooked vegetables you can also use that to grind the

coconut.Mix it with the cooked dal and vegetables and bring it to boil.

In a pan add oil,mustard seeds, urad dal,curry leaves and red chillies.

When it splutters add the coconut and fry until the coconut is slightly

brown. Add this mix to the curry and mix well.This curry is not soupy

unlike sambhar and rasam. So make sure you don't add a lot of water when

u cook the vegetables and dal.
