Parippu Curry/Moongdal Curry
This is one of the Authentic Thiruvithakoor Onam recipe.
Usually Paruppu curry doesn't have any tomatoes in it.
Thought will be interesting to add some tomatoes for
color and flavour. It came out very well. I got this
recipe from a magazine named "vanitha"[Women] which
is very popular in kerala.
Ingredients:
Split MoongDal-1 cup
Tomatoes-2 chopped
Turmeric Powder-1/2 tsp
To make a paste:
Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
Fresh grated coconut-1/2 cup
garlic cloves-3 cloves
Curry leaves-a few
Salt-to taste
Coconut oil-2 tsp
Water-enough to cook the dal
Method:
In a pan add the washed Moong Dal,turmeric
powder and water .When it is half cooked add the
chopped tomatoes and cook until tomato are soft
and dal is completely cooked.
In a blender add the coconut, garlic and cumin
and make a smooth paste with enough water.Add
this to the cooked dal with salt and bring this
to a boil.Remove from flame and pour 2 tsp of
coconut oil on the curry. Garnish with curry
leaves .Serve hot with Rice,Roti,Dosa,Idli's....
